TRAFx Versatility

One TRAFx counter type can often function as or be converted to another TRAFx counter type. The details regarding this “multi-counter” flexibility are presented below.

Counter

Sensor type(s)

Sensor location

Family 1 Vehicle, OHV and Mountain Bike

Magnetic

Internal (inside the field case)

Family 2 Infrared, Pressure Pad Infrared, pressure

External

Family 1 Counters

Family 1 includes the TRAFx Vehicle, OHV and Mountain Bike Counter.
All Family 1 counters use the same magnetic sensor; software differs
All Family 1 counters can be easily configured by the user to operate as
other Family 1 members by changing the mode.
For example, the operating mode of the TRAFx Vehicle Counter can be changed to mountain bike
A Family 1 counter can be converted to a Family 2 counter by ordering
   a conversion kit
For example, a TRAFx Vehicle Counter can be converted to the TRAFx Infrared Trail Counter by purchasing a conversion kit. The conversion process only takes a few minutes; it is easy to convert back again.

Family 2 Counters

Includes the TRAFx Infrared and Pressure Pad Counter.
All Family 2 counters use an external sensor (e.g., infrared, pressure).
Any Family 2 counter can operate as any other Family 2 counter by
purchasing and attaching the appropriate external sensor.
For example, a pressure pad can be connected to the TRAFx Infrared Trail Counter, resulting in the TRAFx Pressure Pad Counter.

The internal magnetic sensor that Family 1 counters have can only be added
to a Family 2 counter at the TRAFx factory.
For example, TRAFx can add a magnetic sensor to the TRAFx Infrared Trail Counter, allowing the user the option of using it as a TRAFx Vehicle Counter.
